JUMMA PEOPLES NETWORK-KOREA (JPNK)
The Jumma peoples Network-Korea (JPNK) is an organization of the indigenous Jumma people of Chittattagong hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh based in Korea. The JPNK was established on the 14 April 2002 by a few dedicated and promising Jumma youth as part movement for the rights to self-determination through establishment of full autonomy in the Chittagong Hill tracts (CHT).
The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) is the obstructed part of Bangladesh, where Jumma people, the national and religious ethnic minorities live. The Chittagong Hill Tracts covers an area of 13,295 square kilometers, the south- eastern part of Bangladesh, bordering the Arakan and Chin States of Burma, and Tripura and Mizoram States of India. Jumma peoples are the bonafide inhabitants of the CHT, are comprised of eleven indigenous ethnic groups. They are Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Tanchangya, Mro, Lushai, Khumi, Chak, Khyang, Bawm, and Pankhua. The Jumma people are distinct and different from the ruling majority Bengali population of Bangladesh in respect of race, language, culture, religion and ethnicity. Being Bangladesh is a Muslim-fundamentalist and extreme Bengali nationalist state the Jumma people are the national and religious minorities there in. Jumma people in CHT mostly are Buddhist followed by Hinduism and Christianity in religion. Due to minor population, divert religious belief and ethnicity Jumma people very often became victim of religious and political repression by the Islamic fundamentalism extreme Bengali nationalism in course of history. Jumma peoples are still discriminated, persecuted, tortured, killed and oppressed.
The Jumma people are deprived of human rights and basic freedom. The majority Muslim-Bengali settlers of the plain who had been illegally settled in the CHT by the Bangladesh government already outnumbered the Jumma population. Jummas are almost going to be on the verge of extinction. Parbattya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samity or PCJSS (peoples solidarity party) the former leading political party of the Chittagong hill tracts (CHT) signed a peace deal with the government of Bangladesh on the 2nd December 1997, which widely known as the 'CHT Peace Treaty' or “CHT peace accord.” The treaty put an end to the armed insurgency of the Jumma people. However, the treaty failed to determine a durable solution for the maim problem of the Jumma people. As persecution goes on Jumma people restlessly fights for its last goal to establish full autonomy the Chittagong hill Tracts the mother land. Jumma Peoples Network-Korea is committed partner for the movement for full autonomy in the Chittagong hill tracts (CHT).
